One Room Challenge The Reveal-Week 8
Welcome friends to the One Room Challenge The reveal! The bedroom makeover for my son, Kyle is almost complete and we are thrilled at the results.
What is ORC?
If this is your first time here, the One Room Challenge is a biannual event created by Linda Weinstein from Calling It Home and sponsored by Better Homes and Gardens. It is where 20 designers and hundreds of guest participants share their process of transforming a room with tons of creativity and original ideas. If you’ve missed any of my previous One Room Challenge posts, you can catch up here…
week 1, week 2, week 3, week 4, week 5, week 6, week 7.
This challenge has been exactly what I needed to get this room done. I admittedly start projects and do not complete them, so this is the perfect opportunity to keep me on track.
Here is where we started…
Not much of personality or style. It was just a mish-mosh of furniture and holding place for our bathroom vanity. Unfortunately, we had to move all that into my bedroom until the bathroom gets remodeled. That’ll be another challenge!
Here’s the moodboard for the room… Going for the dark and moody and I think we achieved it.
I did try to stay very close to the vision. However, slight changes were made as we carried out the projects. We adjusted it to look the best in this room and to put our own spin on it.
We still have a few little touching up to do, but we are so happy the room is complete and thrilled with the results. I love the dark and moody room we created. So sit back and get ready for tons of pictures.
One Room Challenge The Reveal
One of my favorite DIY projects was this 8-foot tufted headboard. The size of the headboard makes such a presence in the room. I created individual upholstered pieces and put them all together to create the channel headboard. DIY tutorial coming soon!
I kept the decor on the nightstand simple with a few of Kyle’s favorites.
The most dramatic change was the deep colors of the walls. Also, created a beautiful featured wall on the opposite side.
We added a small sectional by the window and it has become our favorite spot. There’s always a beautiful breeze coming off the ocean and it’s a cozy spot.
Few accessories and a plant on top of the floating media cabinet add just the right amount of interest.
We installed these beautiful wood slats on the featured wall, I love the warm touch next to the gray wall. I will be sharing a DIY tutorial on all the projects in the next few weeks.
We built a custom desk area to fit snug in this space.
Adding a barrel chair by the window gave another great seating option. My son loves his new room, it so cozy and comfortable for him to relax in.
This was a very ambitious project with all the DIY projects, but we did it and I am so pleased with the outcome. Thanks to my husband working late nights to get it done.
Now that the One Room Challenge the reveal is over, you can peruse endless design projects of the 20 designers and all the guest participants to get the ultimate design inspirations.

Awesome! I love the slatted walls and the cement look with paint. The cozy nook with the couch looks like the perfect spot to sit and unwind. You’ve done a marvelous job!
