Awesome new staircase makeover using wrought iron
New staircase makeover
I hope everyone is doing well through these unsettling times and making the best of it. All we can do is stay indoors and take the opportunity to accomplish the things we normally wouldn’t have time for. We always say there’s never enough time in the day and now there is all the time in the world. This hunkering down time can be a time to be productive to organize, be creative, decorate, revisit old hobbies, start something new and so on. Today I want to share with you my new staircase makeover using wrought iron railings.
My house needed a lot of work when we bought it. Then came hurricane Sandy a few years later and completely damaged the house. Therefore, smaller remodels turned into major renovations. We paced ourselves with the smaller projects after the major necessary repairs were done.
So, high on our renovating priority list was replacing the staircase. This before picture in not even the original staircase that was there, this is the new staircase the company installed.
The staircase in our house had seen better days, the steps creaked every time we went up and down the stairs and it felt unsafe.
We didn’t have much of a choice but to replace the entire staircase. Therefore, the old staircase was removed to make way for the new one. We hired a staircase company to remove the old and install the new structure of the staircase.
Weighing out our options for the new staircase
But the most difficult process was to figure out the style of the railings. It took me a long time to dream and scheme about the choices of the railings that we lived with “floating” staircase for years.
Our staircase is the first feature you see when you enter the house, so it was crucial to get it right. I went through gazillion inspirations on Pinterest, magazines, and other design sites in search of inspirations.
Deciding between wood railing and wrought iron was a conundrum. However, a contemporary design is the route I wanted to go with. I decided on the wrought iron, for it’s durability, low maintenance and its look.
Here are a few of the staircase makeover inspirations I found
The design I chose is indicative to a style you would see in a coastal area but with black iron which gives it a contemporary flair. My husband stained the steps with Jacobean color from Minwax Stain to match the rest of our floors. We collaborated with Joe at Lopopolo Iron Works to create and install the railing. He really takes pride in his work and did an amazing job. I am so thrilled at the way it turned out.
