Fall porch and Halloween decor

Creating a fall porch and Halloween decor can be simple and tons of fun.

Simple fall porch and Halloween decor ideas

Hello friends, cool, cozy autumn is here. Trees are showing off their splendor with their beautiful red, yellow, and orange colored leaves. Soon they’ll all be whisked off the trees and to cover the ground to add natural seasonal decoration.

I got a late start this year in decorating for fall because of our trip to Italy a few weeks ago. But I’m happy to finally share our fall front porch and Halloween decor with you.

Easy Fall Porch and Halloween Decorating Ideas

Looking for an easy way to decorate your front porch for both fall and Halloween? I used colorful heirloom pumpkins, oversized mums, lanterns, orange lights, and a few spooky accents to create a porch that feels festive during the day and magical at night.

I love using heirloom pumpkins for their unusual shapes and muted colors. Each year, I change things up; you can see a few of my previous fall porch decor here and here.

It’s easy to give the front of your home a refresh for the fall season. Layering pumpkins in different colors, shapes, and sizes gives your entrance a warm, welcoming look for your guests.

Start With Colorful Mums

When I shop for mums, I go straight to Costco; their mums are vibrant, extra-large, and usually last throughout the season.

Tips for Keeping Mums Fresh Longer

To extend the life of the mums, I soak them in a large bucket of water for about 15-20 minutes. Water them as needed, and they will last for a couple of months. I have been doing this for the past few years, and this method seems to really prolong the life of the mums.

What I used to decorate the porch:

  • Heirloom pumpkins and gourds
  • Large mums in several colors
  • Lanterns and battery-operated candles
  • Faux eucalyptus stems
  • Orange string lights
  • Animated witches or ghouls
  • Small Halloween accessories

How to Style the Fall porch and steps:

  1. Place the largest mums first.
  2. Arrange the largest pumpkins around the planters.
  3. Fill gaps with smaller pumpkins and gourds.
  4. Add lanterns for height and warmth.
  5. Weave in faux eucalyptus.
  6. Add Halloween decorations last.
  7. Finish with orange lights for nighttime glow.

The assortment of pumpkins, gourds, and mums creates a warm and welcoming porch.

Lanterns with a candle and a few decorative accessories create warmth.

To transition the porch from fall into Halloween, I sprinkled a few spooky accents among the pumpkins and mums.
