Small bathroom design with a twist using a creative vanity

“Out of the box” twist in our bathroom design

Hi everyone, hope you had a good weekend even through we are amid some stressful times. Above all, We all just have to try to make the best of it and preoccupy ourselves at home. I want to share with you our small powder room project that we are working on in our home. I call it bathroom design with a twist and you’ll see why as you read on. You can see some of our other projects here and here. Furthermore, I have a lots of other projects to share with you going forward.

Locating the space for a tiny bathroom

The first floor of our house was lacking a bathroom for our guests and it was a real imposition to say the least. Even more, it was a huge burden on us because we spend most of our time on this floor. Our first floor is somewhat a narrow rectangular open space, this makes it difficult create a boxy room in the middle for a bathroom. Finding the space to fit a bathroom in our open concept layout was also a real dilemma. Constraints of the space created an opportunity of us to really think outside the box and use our imagination.

Consequently, we decided to steal a little space between our backyard and house to make way for a small powder room. We only had space of 3’X 5’ to work with, not an inch more. It was the perfect place to inject creativity and some “wow” factor. Although the bathroom was so small, I didn’t want to skimp on style.

Small extension added to the rear of the house

Painting the walls a light color would expand the room and make it bright. But, we decided to embrace the small area and paint the walls a dark color. We chose one of my favorite colors from Benjamin Moore paints, baby seal black. White and black polished marble looking 24 X 48 tiles as a feature wall and on the floor for contrast.

Bringing in vanity with a twist

My plan was to bring a natural element to this small space and decided on a live edge floating vanity with round vessel sink.

While searching for this unique piece of live edge vanity, I found the most amazing wood trough at Homegoods. I immediately called my husband to see if we can make it work. I got the thumbs up and was so excited to bring this gorgeous piece of wood home. It is even more interesting than the live edge vanity. The organic rolling curved edge makes this trough turned vanity so incredibly unique. My husband cut it down to the size to make it fit the space like a glove. It is exactly the perfect uniqueness I wanted create in this small powder room.

Another great find was this raw edge wood mirror from my favorite place Homegoods. For the reason that, it marries so well together with the floating vanity.

Who knows where you going to find inspiration! Keep eyes open and look for possibilities in everything you see. Think “out of the box” to bring your unique and creative vision to life.

Bathroom design with a twist achieved

Above all, designing this unique bathroom with a twist was so enjoyable. Choosing wall hanging vanity that appears to float gave it the illusion there is more space on floor in our small bathroom. Therefore, expanding the appearance of the overall space. Installing a large mirror above the vanity will reflect the space, and further trick the eye into thinking the room is larger than it actually is.

I am so thrilled at the way this small bathroom design with a twist turned out. Most of all, its the way this bathroom makes me feel with it’s raw yet refined, chic and creative look that makes my heart standstill every time I walk in.   I can’t wait to finish and reveal the completed space.

Stay safe and healthy…Thank you for stopping by!
