Living room transformation from dark to bright
Dark and drab living room transformation
Hi everyone, I hope everyone is staying safe during these unsettling times. I find the best way to deal with this quarantining is tackling projects you normally don’t have time for or start a new hobby, learn a new skill anything to be preoccupied with. Today I am going to share with you my dark and drab living room transformation.
While we are all sheltering in place I decided to start this blog that I have been procrastinating to do for so long. My time was so limited as many of us are, extra time was at a premium.
Planning and researching the ins and outs of creating a blog was going to be time-consuming. I found a plethora of information from Abby Lawson at her site. If anyone is interested in starting a blog I would definitely recommend her blog.
I have so many projects to share with you but we’ll start with my living room.
Living room before
Here is my living room before… it felt like a dark depressing room with brown furniture, dark flooring, a hodgepodge of accessories that just didn’t make any sense.
It felt cluttered and unintentional and I wanted to transform it into a light, bright and comfortable space.
We moved into our house in 2008 and since then our house has gone through some drastic changes. Most of the changes were unplanned and unavoidable because we were destroyed by Hurricane Sandy back in 2012.
We had to go through major reconstruction most of it was structural repairs.
Out of this adversity came the opportunity to update our house it has been a very long process, to say the least. I guess Rome wasn’t built in a day either.
My favorite pastime is decorating, I find it to be so rewarding. I am always on a mission to create beautiful rooms on a budget that looks pulled together and easy to maintain.
Transforming the living room
One of the things I wanted most was a fireplace in my living room. Mantel to hang stockings at Christmas time have a warm glow on cold winter days was a treat. A beautiful focal point in the room.
since the walls and the floors had to be removed down to the beams, it was the perfect time to put in a fireplace.
After searching countless sites I found the perfect fireplace insert, it was a ventless firebox. A modern linear fireplace with glass chips. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it.
Creating a focal point
I always say there’s a silver lining in every cloud. Having the walls removed gave us the choice to figure out the best placement for the fireplace.
We removed an existing long narrow wall and replaced it with two windows on each side to make space for the fireplace in between.
It was a perfect place for a focal point.
I wanted a more of a contemporary look this time around,
Floor to ceiling box was built out…
White quartz ledger stone covers the entire fireplace, I love the shimmering effect it gives…
I love the way it turned out! This fireplace is my favorite addition to our home.
That’s all for now, I’ll be posting changes I plan to make in our home and revealing more project ideas. You can see my small powder room project here. Hope you come back and visit soon!
Wishing all to stay safe and healthy! xoxo
