Living room design ideas
Hello friends! Over the years, I have restyled my living room few different ways trying to get the right feel. It started out with a bunch of mish-mosh brown furniture which made the room look dark and heavy. And really, that’s not me, I generally gravitate towards light, bright living rooms. I don’t even know how it morphed into that! My goal is to create living room design ideas that are simplistic, neutral, and calming. I couldn’t wait to change things up!
You can see how the living room looked before here and its progression. We added a fireplace a few years back when we were doing renovations, it was the best thing we did for our open-concept space.
Here’s is some simple living room design ideas
There are windows all around except for one wall. Giving us fewer options for furniture placements.
So the monstrous TV that my husband must have can only be on the one long wall it is already on.
In my dream living room, I would love to have two sofas facing each other in front of the fireplace. Instead, the furniture is facing the almighty TV. I can’t wait till my basement is finished so I can send the TV and the TV watchers to the basement. Ok, no more ranting! haha!
Add accent chairs
These two swivel chairs are a great addition for their functionality and to add color to the living room. These chairs easily turn to the sofa or TV, making it easy for conversation or watching TV.
I added a little color on the fireplace with a painting that has the colors I wanted to see in the room.
Floor to ceiling curtains for easy living room design updates
The ceiling height in this room is 10 feet and I wanted to hang the curtains from ceiling to floor. This will accentuate the height of the room, make the room feel bigger.
Before I used to have white sheer curtains to help make the living room look light and airy. But, the sheers gave too much light and gave no ability to change the levels of light.
After searching for a while, I was excited to find these beautiful stone color curtains with the length I needed. These curtains really brought the interest up to the ceiling and gave it a cozier feel.
I love the look of the overall monochromatic color scheme with a pop of color to add interest.
Styling the coffee table for easy living room design updates
Set the base
One of the best ways to set the base for styling a coffee table is to start with a tray. It adds a nice focal point and a great place to group decorative objects together.
Layer decorative objects
Layering decorative objects adds so much volume and interest to your coffee table. Displaying objects that may have sentimental feelings or beautiful items found in Homegoods works great.
Add books
Simply adding coffee table books gives attention to your coffee table. Not only does It helps to create height but also a place to display your decorative objects. They can also motivate you to relax and skimming through the beautiful pages.
Add in levels
Adding levels to your coffee table can add so much interest. Using a vase with flowers, decorative boxes, beautiful objects can give you varying heights.
Add candles
If you want to elevate the coziness of the living room, light a candle! I love styling the coffee table with pretty, scented candles. I must say, Nest candles are my favorite, particularly grapefruit scent and bamboo scent. The scent stays till the very end of the candle.
This zebra box was a garage sale find… It started out as an old brown box, I painted zebra print on it with high gloss black and white paint to give it new life. I love the transformation just with a little bit of paint.
Little splash of color mixed in and keeping the background of the living room understated creates a relaxed and welcoming look.
Fall updates coming soon, hope you stop by!
