Floors and walls for your basement remodel

Often times, basements can be damp and humid. If your basement shows signs of humidity it is well worth investing in a dehumidifier to keep the air crisp. Also, waterproofing the walls are essential to keep from moisture penetrating through the walls.

Therefore, choosing the right floors is crucial for a basement. Floors sets the tone for the design of the space but it also needs to stand up to the demands of how the space is used.

Basements run a risk of leaks and floods in certain areas. I find that ceramic or porcelain tiles are Ideal floor for basements in case water enters the basement, water can easily be removed without damage done to floor.

Now that we have the technical stuff out of the way, let’s move on to the fun ideas for your stylish and creative basement remodel.

Kristin tiled the floor with beautiful wood look porcelain tile throughout. She soften the look of the tile by adding area rugs throughout. This created a warm cozy feel. You can also add in-floor heating if you really want to splurge and create a warmth under your feet.

Relaxing in comfort in your stylish basement

Create a seating with relaxation in mind with comfortable seating , plush pillows and rug.

Putting together several conversation areas is perfect for entertaining guests. You can see pockets of seatings throughout Kristin’s basement.

Music area

Did I say there is a Baby Grand piano in this basement? Well, here it is! Great spot to tickle the keys.

Bar/kitchen area

Beautiful bar area set up to indulge in a delicious cocktail and nice conversations with guests.

Focal wall

One of my favorite design features in this basement makeover is the pallet wall behind the television. But, she didn’t stop there, to bring the look of the pallets to the opposite side of the room, she wrapped the bar she built with pallets, it looks amazing.

Kristin’s husband went around scouring the neighborhood for discarded pallets. There was a influx of renovations happening in the neighborhood and there were lots of pallets to be found. If searching the neighborhood doesn’t work for you, pallets can be easily found at a Home Depot, Lowes or your local home improvement store.

Power of paint

Painting a feature wall with a deep accent color gave maximum result with minimum investment to this space. Add a bar cart between two comfy chairs and voila! There’s another cozy seating area.

And another one…

By combining rustic material, transitional elements and worldly accents, Kristin created a stylish living area that rivals some main living rooms.

Kristin has truly created an amazing stylish and creative basement. One that is filled with ideas to incorporate into your own space.

Basements can have multi functional areas such as work out zone, guest bedroom, laundry rooms, bar area, lounging area, home theatre, wine cellar. It can offer enough room for almost anything you can conjure up, options are limitless.
