One Room Challenge – Week 2 – Bedroom makeover to do list
Hi there, welcome to the One Room Challenge-week 2 of my 6-week journey to creating a cozy, comfortable, and modern bedroom for my son, Kyle. If this is your first time here, you can read a little bit about me here.
If you didn’t know already, One Room Challenge is an event started by Linda Weinstein of Calling it Home. This fun challenge gives the participant an opportunity to makeover a room in a 6-week span. I look forward to this bi-annual event, to see all the amazingly talented people show off their incredible creativity.
You can see my week 1 post to give you an idea of our starting point. This week is gathering and planning for the desired look. Here’s another look at the mood board for this makeover.
So let’s jump right into it…
Mish-mosh to posh
I can’t believe my son is already a young adult, how did that happen? So with that said, I want him to have a young adult room. His room now is a mish-mosh of furniture, with no cohesive style. Kyle knows what appeals to him and what will give him comfort. So his input in what he would like to see in his room makes it a little easier for me to create the ideal space for him. His style is a dark, moody, modern style so I plan to create the perfect modern design with a touch of natural elements.
One Room Challenge – Week 2- DIY list
- Create a faux cement accent wall with paint
Extend the closet– We already extended his closet to give extra space for storage.- Install a wood slat on the wall behind the desk
- Build a tufted geometric headboard
Inspirations for the DIY projects
Faux cement accent wall
I am going to create the look of cement wall with just paint, I’ll show you the technique I use in a later post. Getting the look of texture without the actual texture. Just in case we want to change the look in the future so that it won’t be a hassle to get back to the untextured wall.
Wood slat walls
We love this wood slat wall feature idea, it’ll add a beautiful natural element to the room and will help to warm up the grey. I plan to stain the wood an ashy grey color to match the side table. I can’t wait to see how this project turns out.
Tufted geometric headboard
The tufted floor-to-ceiling headboard will make a big impression in the room. Unfortunately, we have to eliminate one of the three windows in the room to accommodate the headboard. We’ll be mounting the headboard in front of the window, similar to this one below…
