Modern Coastal Bedroom-One Room Challenge

Modern Coastal bedroom design ideas

Well, here we go, I can’t believe I am joining the One Room Challenge or ORC again! If you are new to ORC, this is an event where participants are challenged to transform a space in their home in 8 weeks. In ORC 2021, I created a cozy, moody bedroom for my son and it was one of my favorite projects. This time I am tackling my daughter’s bedroom to create a modern coastal bedroom.

Thank goodness for this event because it helps me to complete a space in my house without dragging my feet. It’s eight weeks of challenges and excitement but all worth it in the end.

The first week of the One Room Challenge is to plan out the space, think of the DIY projects, make purchases that have to be made, and think about the color scheme,.

Bedroom in need of the makeover

This bedroom is way too young for my now adult daughter… Although, she will not give up some of her stuffed animals.

Modern Coastal Bedroom

I painted this mural when she was 8 years old and It’s time for a change. But, she has such an attachment to it and can’t bear to see it painted over. I decided that using peel-and-stick wallpaper over it would be a good solution. It can easily be removed to show the mural again if she wants.

My daughter is graduating college next month, and this would be a great change to come back home to. She will be going on to graduate school afterward, so creating a cozy sanctuary for her to be able to study and decompress will be much needed.

Design Plan for Modern Coastal Bedroom

We live by the beach and she loves the beach and loves the coastal look. I’m hoping to create a stylish modern coastal bedroom for her.

I created a mood board to give an idea of what will be going into the room. Although, these items are not set in stone. I learned that the hard way with my last bathroom project where major changes happened in the midst. Better Ideas may come to mind or find different pieces of furniture that will be a better fit. It’s all good because, in the end, it will be worthwhile.

Color scheme

My daughter’s favorite colors are teal and aqua reminiscent of the ocean. These colors along with white and natural wood tones will help to create the coastal look.

Hope you follow along each Thursday for the next 8 weeks to see the progress of this room. I have a few fun ideas in mind and can’t wait to share them with you.
