How to transition from Christmas to winter decor
Transition from Christmas to winter decor
Happy New Year friends! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a start to a great 2022 year. It’s a little late to wish you a Happy New Year but better late than never, right? I decided to transition from Christmas to winter decor early this year. Usually, we keep up our Christmas decor till Little Christmas.
But, our celebrations for Christmas and New Year came to a halt on Christmas day with all of us catching Covid, happy days! Thankfully no one was too sick and we were able to enjoy and celebrate amongst ourselves.
We made the best of it… played fun games, watched movies, and ate till we couldn’t eat anymore, haha!
The excitement of Christmas quickly faded during our 10 days of quarantine. So, having all hands on deck, I got everyone to help me take down and put away all the Christmas decorations early this year.
Although I was getting ahead on the de-christmasing, it was a bit sad removing all the cheerful Christmas decor. The house looked so joyful and festive this year, it was one of the most Christmassy ones yet.
After all the Christmas decorations came down, the house seemed so empty and bland.
To keep from looking subdued, I transitioned into a cozy neutral winter decor in the house.

To transition to the winter season, start by removing all the colorful Christmas decor. Remove all the holiday displays you may have up. It is also a great time to get organized with the decorations to make it easier for next year.
Put away the decor in clear bins according to their color and style to make it easier to retrieve. It’ll also make it easier to interchange the color scheme for next year.
Clean, crisp winter whites, cremes, beige in throws, pillows, and accessories radiate winter delight.
Keep some of the real and faux winter greenery used for your Christmas decor
Re-using some of the faux holiday greenery is a great way to create the winter style. I have always been a real, not faux greenery kinda gal, but last year I discovered the beauty and the usefulness of the faux branches. Let’s face it, real pine branches in the house can only last a few weeks, and then after it’s a total mess. I was able to find a great selection of faux greenery at Michaels Craft Store and Target. I also scattered a few small pine trees I had used for Christmas around, they worked beautifully for the winter decor as well. As always, you can never go wrong with using real plants to bring warmth to a room.
I kept the wooden candle holders, large gold platter, and a few other neutral decor items on display. Adding neutral colors is a great way to transition from Christmas to winter decor.

Add knit blankets and throw pillows to create a cozy feel
Cozy up the space with texture and neutral palette with knit or wool blankets and throw pillows. Throw blankets will not only look decorative but keep you snuggly warm on cool nights. Adding a few blankets and pillows will make the transition into winter seamless.
Add a few lanterns and candles to give a magical glow
Adding candles throughout your space exudes a cozy ambiance. The flickering of candles illuminates a space with a soft, relaxing glow that is difficult to achieve any other way. Placing candles in lanterns creates an even more magical feel. They help direct the light into a warm, peaceful glow. Having lanterns in different heights adds more interest and style.
A great way to start the new year is to create a comfy, cozy winter home. The best way to transition from Christmas to winter decor is to keep it simple and neutral.
