It’s pumpkin season and I love all things pumpkin during this time of the year. I love to walk around the neighborhood to see all the beautiful front porch displays with a variety of pumpkins in various colors, shapes, and sizes. Adding a cozy, welcoming feel to the outside of the homes. You can see my porch display with the traditional orange pumpkins mixed in with the heirloom pumpkins to create a homey look. This season also brings on delicious treats like pumpkin pie, pumpkin bread, pumpkin spice latte, you get the idea.

Local stores load up on pumpkins as soon as it starts to get cooler. Tis’ the beautiful autumn season.

What you will need

  • Flowers – I used store brought flowers
  • One pumpkin- you can use any color or size pumpkin
  • Vase that fits in the middle of the pumpkin
  • scissors
  • One cup of bleach/10 cups of water
  • Carving knife

This is how to make a pumpkin flower centerpiece

1-Wash the exterior of the pumpkin well with a little bleach and water to remove any dirt and bacteria so it will last longer. I used a cup of bleach to 10 cups of water.

2-After the pumpkin is cleaned and dried, use the mouth of the vase as the guide to trace the top of the pumpkin with a marker.

3-Cut the top of the pumpkin using a carving knife or a sharp knife. Cut through the thickness of the pumpkin into the hollow center. Pull out the top with the stem and discard it.

4- Scoop out all the pumpkin seeds and pulp with a spoon. If you’re ambitious you can roast the seeds for a delicious snack. Unfortunately, I’m not that ambitious!

5-Spray the inside with bleach and water and rinse. This will help to extend the life of the pumpkin.

6-Place a glass vase or bowl inside the pumpkin and fill it with water and sprinkle some floral food.

7-Arrange the store-bought flowers in your hand and hold them upside down to measure the height against the pumpkin. Then trim the stems to the desired height, it’s best to cut it a little longer than shorter. You can trim a little at a time to get the right length.
