How to make your own buttermilk

No worries if you don’t have buttermilk, this method will do just fine!

All you need is to do is combine milk and vinegar in a small bowl.  Let it rest for 10 minutes to sour the milk.

Don’t worry you will not taste the vinegar in the pancake.

While the milk and vinegar are resting, mix all the dry ingredients in a medium bowl.

SIDE NOTE: I love the taste of Almond Extract instead of Vanilla Extract, you can try both see which one you prefer.

After the milk mixture has rested, slowly add the milk to the dry ingredients and whisk.

Batter needs to rest to make the fluffy pancakes

For the perfect pancakes, don’t over mix the batter.

Over mixing the batter can make it too runny and make flat pancakes.

It’s important to have the right consistency in the batter to get a light and fluffy pancake.

After the batter is mixed, let it rest for 10 minutes undisturbed.

Meanwhile, heat up the griddle or your non-stick pan, add a little butter to the surface.

Once the batter has rested for 10 minutes you may see bubbles in the batter, don’t stir again. As tempting as it may be, it is very important not to stir again. This is crucial to making fluffy pancakes.

How to make the most amazing buttermilk pancakes ever!

Gently pour the undisturbed batter on the heated griddle. I use a measuring cup to pour, I find it is easier to control. Starting in the middle, and spread it out gently into a round shape.

Cook until bubbles appear on the surface of the pancake and then flip them over with a spatula and cook till golden brown on the other side. You’ll have the most amazing buttermilk pancakes ever!
