Every year I make this American Flag Fruit Pizza to bring to my best friend’s Memorial Day party and it is a big hit with everyone. Each year they make sure I am making the specialty fruit pizza. I am happy to make it, it’s so easy and delicious!
Here’s a step-by-step guide to creating this colorful, patriotic dessert.
You can make the crust up to 2 days in advance, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap, store it in the refrigerator.
Secret ingredient for making the fruit pizza
The pudding has to be thicker than the usual pudding texture. So the secret to achieving a denser pudding is to add heavy cream. Follow the usual instructions on the package which is 2 cups of milk but instead add one cup of milk and one cup of heavy cream. You can make the pudding mixture and store it in the refrigerator up to 2 days in advance, this will ensure that the pudding has a nice thick consistency.

Then, on the day of the event, just put it all together!
Take out the crust from the refrigerator about an hour before preparing the American Flag.
Special equipment needed:
Ingredients
For the Crust:
- 1 package of refrigerated sugar cookie dough (16.5 ounces)
- Flour for dusting
Pudding Mixture
- Instant vanilla pudding
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 1 cup of milk
Fruit Topping
- 1 cup of blueberries
- 2 cups of sliced strawberries
- 3 bananas
Instructions for the American Flag Fruit Pizza
- Make the Pudding Mixture:
- In a medium mixing bowl, beat the instant pudding mix, milk, and heavy cream, and refrigerate in advance.
- The pudding will thicken while chilling in the refrigerator
- Preheat and Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the Crust
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the sugar cookie dough and transfer the dough onto a greased rectangular cookie sheet.
- Transfer the dough to a greased baking sheet or a pizza pan. Pat the dough to fill the pan evenly.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Let the cookie crust cool completely. If it’s warm, the pudding will start to thin and melt.
- Spread the pudding mixture evenly over the cooled cookie crust.
- Prepare the Fruit:
- Rinse and drain the blueberries and strawberries.
- Slice the strawberries lengthwise.
- Slice the bananas right before assembling.
- Assemble the American Flag:
- Start by creating a blue square in the top left corner of the pizza using the blueberries.
- Next, arrange the strawberry slices in rows to represent the red stripes of the American flag. Leave space between the rows for the white stripes.
- Place the banana slices in the spaces between the strawberry rows.
- Serve and Enjoy:
- Refrigerate the fruit pizza for about an hour before serving to allow it to set.
- Slice into squares or wedges and serve chilled. Enjoy the delicious combination of cookie crust, pudding, and fresh fruit!
Tips and Variations
- Healthier Option: Use whole wheat cookie dough or a homemade oat crust for a healthier base.
- Fruit Substitutions: Feel free to use other fruits like raspberries or red grapes for the red stripes.
- Prevent bananas from browning: Add a touch of lemon juice to the bananas to prevent them from browning.
This American Flag Fruit Pizza is a fantastic dessert for any patriotic holiday like Memorial Day, Flag Day or independence Day. Combining the sweetness of summer fruits with a creamy pudding on a soft cookie crust is a perfect combination for this delious dessert. It’s sure to be a hit with both kids and adults, making your celebration both delicious and visually stunning. Enjoy the festivities with this vibrant and tasty treat! Happy Memorial Day!
