A little about me:

Hello friends, welcome to Houzewize! I am Sherry, a decorating enthusiast, doer of DIY projects, love creating art, cooking and a Real Estate Agent in NY by profession. I have created this blog to share my home and garden makeovers, design inspirations, some recipes and more.

We bought our house in Rockaway Beach, New York in 2008. The house was in major disrepair and needed a complete overhaul. But, we love the location and the proximity to the ocean was perfect. My husband and I have always been attracted to a house that needed work oppose to one that is already done in someone else’s taste. It gave us an opportunity to put our own creative touches, our personality and style into the house. We immediately started our journey of transforming our house into a home.

Over the next few years we worked on decorating, do-it-yourself projects and I started a Etsy shop and became a real estate agent. 

Wrath of Super Storm Sandy

In 2012, we were hit with Hurricane Sandy which destroyed our area and our house. We had to rebuild part of the house and start the whole process again, but with more extensive renovations.

Second time around my design style changed from very eclectic/ traditional to more coastal contemporary.  I love the changes that are happening, we are taking our time to really think out the process to create a beautiful home. I always say there is a silver lining to every cloud.

I am a firm believer that a home has to evolve over time and it becomes a part of your story. It is continuously transforming into a beautiful and comfortable space we are proud to call home.

This blog was created out of my enthusiasm for interior decorating, do-it-yourself projects, art and food. I love a challenge to create a beautiful space on a budget armed with a little ingenuity.  Hope you find relatable ideas you can incorporate or inspire you to create in your own home.
