One Room Challenge – Week 1

Hello friends, I have pulled the trigger and decided to join the Spring 2021 One Room Challenge- Week 1! If you’re not familiar with the One Room Challenge, this is an event that takes place twice a year hosted by Linda from Calling it Home in partnership with Better Homes and Gardens. where a group of designers and bloggers makeover a space from start to finish in 8 weeks. These designers and bloggers bring so much creativity and inspiration to the table and share their transformation process every week.

If you’re new here, my name is Sherry, a realtor by day sometimes at night and a design and DIY enthusiast all day long. Most of the time I will design what I would like to see in my home and my husband creates it. I am joining the One Room Challenge as a guest participant to makeover my son’s room. I have wanted to redo his room for a long time, but life takes over with distractions and I seem to lose focus. Does this happen to anyone else or is it just me? Joining the One Room Challenge will put a fire under me to get this room done once in for all.

Here we go… My son’s room has become a catch-all room to store a large vanity for our bathroom we are renovating. This cannot go on any longer… We’ll have to find another place to store them till the bathroom is completed (maybe my daughter’s room, haha). We expanded his closet and installed double doors already which was a part of the room makeover.

Design Concept

My son likes a modern style, so I want to create a cozy, comfortable, modern space for him to relax and work in.

DIY project for the One Room Challenge – Spring 2021-Week 1

Here’s a list of the DIY project I plan to tackle for this room

  • DIY wood slat wall
  • Build a geometric tufted headboard
  • Faux paint one wall to make it look like a cement wall
  • Install baseboard and molding around windows

I am so excited we are finally doing this room, I hope you follow along and maybe get inspired. Also, make sure to visit the designers and the other guest participant to see their incredible creativity and design inspirations.

Thank you for stopping by!
