If you can’t find what you’re looking for in stores, you can always bring your vision to life by making it yourself.

So…

Here are the materials you will need:

  • Clear plastic or glass ornaments
  • Alcohol ink in colors of your choice
  • Hair dryer
  • Gold metallic paint, liquid or spray ( I prefer spray) but I didn’t have any at the time.
  • Paint brush if you are using liquid paint
  • Paper towels or newspaper to protect your workspace.
  • Ribbon or twine to hang the ornaments

Let’s get DIYing some stained glass ornaments

Step 1: Select Your Ornaments Start by choosing clear ornaments. These can be found at craft stores or online. Plastic ornaments are a great option, especially if you have little ones around. In my case I drop my glass ornaments and shatter them into pieces! 😅

Step 2: Prepare Your Workspace Cover your work area with newspaper or paper towel.

Step 3: Pick Your Colors Select a festive color palette for your ornaments. Classic red and green, icy blues and silvers. The choice is yours! I used Olive green ink. Drop about 10 drops of Alcohol ink into the clear ornament.

Step 4: Twirl it around to cover the inside of the ornament with the ink.

Step 5: Add more drops of the Alcohol ink if needed. Dry the paint inside with the blow dryer on lower setting while continuing to rotating the bauble.

***NOTE: If you are using plastic ornaments, don’t use the hair dryer on high, it can melt the plastic ornament (I found out the hard way)😀

Slower you turn the ornament while drying the more variations in colors will appear inside.

Step 6: Paint the metal top with metallic paint or you can spray it as well if you have metallic spray paint.

Step 7: Let It Dry Allow your ornaments to dry completely before handling them. This may take about 1/2 hour.

Step 8: Attach Hanging Ribbon Once your ornaments are dry, add a festive touch by tying colorful ribbons or twine to the ornament’s top for hanging. Ensure the knot is secure.

Hang your handmade ornaments on the Christmas tree, mantel, or anywhere else that needs a touch of holiday cheer.

You can also put it in a decorative bowl and place it on you coffee table or console table to showcase your inky masterpiece! for a beautiful decor.
